> City of Chilliwack

City of Chilliwack - Community Standards Bylaw 2021, No. 5041

Management of Invasive Species and Protection of Wildlife (Page 5)

  • 9. An Owner or occupier of a parcel of real property shall not cause, allow or permit on the parcel: 
    (1) the growth, presence, or spread of Alien Invasive Species;
    (2) an infestation by Alien Invasive Species;
    (3) the sale or trade of Alien Invasive Species; or,
    (4) the removal or deposit of Soil contaminated with Alien Invasive Species.
  • 10. An Owner or occupier of a parcel of real property that contains an Alien Invasive Species shall initiate a management plan to eradicate the species and shall continue implementing the management plan until the species has been completely eradicated from the property.
  • 14. Every Owner or occupier of real property shall maintain every Sidewalk and Boulevard abutting their property in a clean and safe condition and, without limiting the provisions of this Bylaw, shall: (1) keep the Boulevard free of Alien Invasive Species, in accordance with Section 9 of this bylaw;

Noxious weeds (Page 6)

  • 8. (1)  An owner or occupier of a property must not cause or permit a noxious weed to grow or accumulate on the property.
    (2)  An owner or occupier of a property that contains a noxious weed must eradicate the noxious weed.
    (3)  In eradicating the noxious weed referred to in subsection (2), the owner or occupier must comply with all applicable provincial or federal regulations, including the Integrated Pest Management Act, Integrated Pest Management Regulation and Pest Control Products Act.

  • 6.3 Except as permitted under section 6.2 of this Bylaw, no owner or occupier of real
    property shall cause, suffer or permit: 
    (d) the accumulation of dead landscaping, vegetation, noxious weeds or other
    growths to occur or to remain on the real property;

  • 3 b) A person must not:
    ii. Allow the accumulation of any noxious weed or invasive plant or any other material in or on any public or private property that could cause infestation; 
  • 4 a) Every person who owns or occupies real property must:
    i. Ensure that brushing of vegetation and weed or invasive species removal is completed regularly as to alleviate or stop the overgrowth of same. 
  • 4 b) On being delivered an order, remove or cause to be removed from the property:
    i. Any and all unsightly conditions described in the order; and
    ii. Any water, noxious weed, invasive species, objects, or conditions listed in paragraph 3(c) identified in the order, within a time period stated in the order, or if no time period is stated, within 30 days following the date of the order was mailed or otherwise delivered.

  • 3.6 Plants or Trees deemed an invasive species in the Field Guide to Noxious Weeds and other selected Invasive Plants of British Columbia will not be permitted within the Park.
