Invasive Plant Pickup

Did you know?

The Fraser Valley Regional District (FVRD) offers an invasive weeds pick-up service for residents in their service area (Electoral Areas C, D, E, G, H, Chilliwack, and Abbotsford) from April to August every year.

To request a pickup of invasive plants:

  1. Bag your plants!
    • Please ensure the bags are not ripped and properly tied closed.
    • We cannot pick up invasive plants that are not in bags, or if the bags are falling apart.

  2. Email pickup@fviss.ca or call 778-548-3847 to let us know:
    1. Your name
    2. Your address, and where the bags will be placed
    3. Your phone number (to reach you in case there are questions during pick up)
    4. What invasive plants will be disposed?
    5. How many bags?
      • Knowing how many bags help us determine which vehicle to use. If you have more bags than our vehicle can fit, we will arrange pick up via our on-the-ground crews.

We will confirm your pick-up date once we receive your request. If you have more bags than our vehicle can fit, we will arrange pick up via our on-the-ground crews, which will occur often the next time they can be in your neighbourhood, typically within the next week.

All weeds must be bagged, labelled "Invasive Weeds", and left at the front of your property.

In many cases, best practices include onsite disposal. When best practices include offsite disposal, disposal facilities can be found here. This list is updated periodically.

Reminder do not backyard compost or put in green bins. Residential composters do not reach temperatures high enough to destroy seeds and/or rhizomes.
