Hosted by the Fraser Valley Invasive Species Society (FVISS) & Trinity Western University - The Knotweed Lab

Since the 2021 floods, the spread of invasive Knotweed plants has increased throughout the Chilliwack-Vedder River.

Join us for a FREE walk along the Rotary Trail and learn more about this invasive plant, how to identify it, and its impacts to our local environment. We'll also be able to hear about ongoing Knotweed research from Trinity Western University's The Knotweed Lab and other study work that has been happening in the river since the 2021 Atmospheric River flooding events!

Event Information:

Our meeting location/starting point will be at the Peach Park parking lot. We will then have a short walk along the Rotary Trail towards the Lickman Vedder parking lot, stopping at various points to see and learn about the plants, before returning back to Peach Park.

The trail is flat and this will be a leisurely stroll, so all are welcome! However, the trail may be busy and exposed to heat/sun. We will do our best to pause in shady spots out of the way of other trail users - Remember to dress for the weather and bring water if it will be a hot day!

Space is only limited to 15 people per day so we don't take up the entire walkway,  so register today!

What to Bring:

  • Water (it might be a hot day)
  • Hat and Sunglasses (it might be a very sunny day)
  • An interest in the Chilliwack-Vedder River!

Other Info:

  • Can I bring children to the walk?

Yes! However, we will be walking outdoors in the sun, with learning stops along an active and busy walking trail. We ask attendees to keep watch over any children so we are not disturbing other users of the Rotary Trail

  • Can I bring/use a stroller or a wheelchair?

Yes! The Rotary Trail at Peach Park is flat and accessible at grade. However, we will be walking outdoors in the sun, with learning stops along an active and busy walking trail. We ask attendees to keep to the side, especially at stops, so we are not disturbing other users of the Rotary Trail.

  • Will there be refreshments provided?

Unfortunately, we will not be supplying any refreshments. Please bring your own water to stay hydrated for our walk!
